HP Folio 13 Review

If you are shopping around for an ultrabook, you must consider the HP Folio 13. It is currently one of the best ultrabook models in the market, with an excellent combo of great design, competent specs, great feature set and a reasonable price tag.

The Folio 13 is labeled as a business style ultrabook; probably explaining is rather formal, yet very elegant and simplistic exterior design. It is just 0.7-inches thick and weighs in at 3.3 pounds, which is really very light for a 13-inch laptop model. This model comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 128GB SSD hard drive and a 1366 x 768 pixel 13-inch screen. This set of specs would easily take care of most of the heavy computing tasks that you would need to perform on a regular basis.

Summary of specs and features:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 Second Generation
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7 Professional
  • Storage: 128GB SSD hard drive
  • Memory: 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • Graphics: Intel HD 3000
  • Display: 13.3-inch 1366 x 768 LED backlit screen
  • Connectivity: HDMI, Bluetooth 3.0, Wireless N 802.11n
  • Dimensions: 0.7 x 8.67 x 12.54 inches
  • Weight: 3.3lbs
  • Keyboard: Backlit, island style keys

The Folio 13 is just a little heavier (almost negligible) than the Macbook Air of the same size, but considerably cheaper. The HP model currently retailing at just under $900, which is significantly cheaper than many of its competing models. The battery life is also very impressive, lasting up to 9 hours on one charge. In fact some tests has shown that it has the best battery life among all of the Windows ultrabook models in its class so far.

As mentioned above, the HP Folio 13 has a rather professional demeanor to it, thanks to the brushed aluminum external casing and symmetrical lines. It is very solidly constructed, which is quite a pleasant surprise coming from its slender profile.

Overall, the HP Folio 13 is an excellent ultrabook laptop. It may not be the sexiest, thinnest nor fastest model in its class, but the combination of a modest price tag, practical design and decent feature set makes the Folio 13 a proposition that is hard to resist.

The HP Envy 15 Reviewed

Every once in a while, a laptop model comes around to set a new gold standard for others to emulate. At the time of writing, the HP Envy laptop series have done just that, currently being one of the best Windows laptop that money can buy. Here is a quick review of the HP Envy 15.

The HP Envy 15

The HP Envy 15 is a high-end laptop model with a powerful set of specs and a swanky design. Despite all its high-end features, HP has managed to keep the price at a rather reasonable level. This laptop is perfect for anyone who is looking for a stylish, yet powerful and practical, full-sized, full-featured laptop model.

Hard Specs and Features

The new 2011 Envy 15 comes with an Intel Core i5 2430M processor, a 500GB hard drive, and 6GB of DDR3 RAM. This set of specs will prove to be more than sufficient for the average laptop user and is set to meet your needs for many years to come without the need to go for and upgrade. The 15.6-inch screen is a HD display where you can have a 730p or full HD 1080p experience depending on which model you choose. Then there is the usual slew of peripherals including an optical drive, Bluetooth, 2 USB ports, 802.11n wi-fi, memory card reader, an Ethernet and HDMI port. The batteries on this laptop can last up to 9 hours on one charge.

A big feature on the HP Envy 15 is its Beats audio system. This little laptop comes with an integrated subwoofer and 6 built-in speakers. Whether you plan to use it with or without headphones or external speakers, the audio on this laptop is absolutely one of the best in its class. This makes it an excellent multimedia platform, a great choice if you plan to use it a lot for watching movies and listening to music. There is also a physical volume wheel and a mute button on the top ride side of the keyboard, which is extremely convenient for adjusting the volume. I can imagine that these cool audio features would be enough of a reason for many to buy this laptop.

Design and Aesthetics

The design is always a big deciding factor when it comes to purchasing a laptop and the HP Envy 15 scored brilliantly in this department. The laptop has a magnesium-aluminum finish, with a dark external casing and bezel that is contrasted with a lighter metallic shade on the inside. They keyboard has backlit features and black island style keys. The keyboard is outline with a red line that adds a groovy vibe to the laptop. Our only complain is that it looks a little too much like a MacBook Pro on the inside. Other than that it is an absolute stunner however you look at it.

As mentioned earlier, HP has managed to keep the price tag relatively low with this model. The HP Envy currently retails at around $1000 each, which is an absolute bargain for a laptop of this stature.
