Top Rated Netbook Tablet Models (2012)

Having a hard time choosing between a netbook or a tablet? Why not just get a netbook tablet, or more accurately, a netbook tablet convertible that can transform into a tablet. These convertible netbooks have the chassis and size of a netbook but their screens can be flipped about using a unique swivel hinge that allows you to flip the touchscreen over the netbook’s keyboard, transforming it into a touchscreen tablet. Choices for these netbook tablet convertibles are still rather limited although most of the major netbook makers such as Dell, Asus, Lenovo and Samsung have created their own versions.
A few other notable netbook tablet and laptop tablet convertibles were also seen at the recent CES 2011. These models included the Samsung 7 convertible netbook and Lenovo’s Yoga laptop. The Lenovo Yoga in particular turned heads due to its ability to bend over backwards with its 360 degree hinge design. Unlike the standard swivel design which tends to be a bit weaker in comparison, the Lenovo Yoga’s hinges are a bit stronger and should offer those looking for such convertible performance an interesting buy for their consideration lists (or at least after it is released officially).
Most netbook tablet convertible computers are a bit heavier than normal tablets or netbooks. This is because the touchscreen lid is a bit thicker than the normal ultra-thin netbook lid, however, the added functionality of turning your netbook into a tablet you can cradle in the crook of your arm is simply awesome for presentations. Asides from the weak swivel hinge, the only other downside of such computers is that they tend to deplete their batteries quite fast, mainly because both the tablet and the netbook need more power than usual. The price for such netbook tablets is also significantly higher while some are just not sold in certain countries. You can still get someone to ship it back to you though.
The Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime received raving reviews
Talking about touchscreen tablets and convertibles, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime is one of the leading performance touchscreen tablets in the market. What makes it convertible or in this case transforming, is the fact that the dock that it comes with also features a comfortable keyboard and an additional 18 hours worth of battery time. It isn’t really a netbook convertible but it does offer similar functionality. However, unlike these netbooks, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime features a powerful quad-core processor that puts it on equal standing with larger screen laptops along with support for 3D graphics that should make it an adequate gaming machine.
